Pat and Bernie have been married for 12 years with 4 children between them. Kelsey and Marcus are Pat's children from a previous marriage and Grace and Griffin are Bernie's from hers. They also have a 2 year old grandson, Teagan.
Never being a smoker, Pat was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer on March
30, 2008. After a hospital stay and numerous tests, it was discovered that the cancer has spread to his brain. A blood clot in his lower left leg has caused considerable discomfort and inability to be mobile. Daily shots of Fragmin (blood thinner) are needed to anchor the clot so it does not travel and cause a more serious situation.
Pat has been on temporary disability since March 30, 2008. He does not have long term disability coverage through his employment. The temporary disability will be expiring in the near future and he will be faced with continuing his medical coverage through COBRA. Radiation treatment will be completed on May 9, 2008. Chemotherapy will resume on Thursday, May 15, 2008 and continue through September.
